Welcome to Council District 7, representing south Denver – “lucky District 7.”
Ours is a diverse and dynamic community, roughly bounded by Federal Blvd. on the west and University Blvd. on the east, 6th Ave. on the north and the City limits at Yale Ave. on the south. We have a diverse array of housing, from the fine old bungalows and leafy streets of West Washington Park and Platt Park, to the post-war cottages and big lots of Athmar Park and Ruby Hill with their fantastic views of downtown and the mountains, to the beautiful new multi-family projects springing up around Broadway and our light-rail stations. We are home to a substantial proportion of Denver’s industrial land – some ripe for redevelopment, but much of it supporting major industrial and commercial businesses. We are crisscrossed by some of Denver’s most important commercial and transportation corridors – Broadway, I-25, Santa Fe Dr., Evans Ave., and Alameda Ave., plus two light-rail lines and five light rail stations. Broadway serves as the spine of the district and is rapidly developing into one of Denver’s prime shopping, restaurant, and entertainment destinations, home to Antique Row, the “Mayan District,” and the Denver Design Center. We are also home to the fine dining and quaint shopping of Old South Pearl, one of Denver’s oldest “streetcar villages,” as well as the University of Denver, the jewel in Denver’s crown of higher education institutions. We also boast some of Denver’s major parks and recreational assets, bordering Washington Park on the east, home to Ruby Hill Park and Overland Golf Course on the west and Harvard Gulch Park in the south, peppered with numerous neighborhood pocket parks throughout the district, and with the green ribbon of the Platt River running through the middle – a recreational highway leading to miles of trails and parks in all directions. And finally, we are a richly diverse community of people – richly diverse in income, ethnicity, education, and occupation. We welcome you all, and are home to all the great things Denver has to offer.
