Cheeseman Park Advocacy Group
City Council - Jeanne Robb, Dist. 10
Cheesman Park Advocacy Group

For almost four years now, the Cheesman Park Advisory Group (CPAG) has been meeting regularly to discuss issues of concern related to Cheesman Park and possible solutions to address those concerns. We have achieved a number of smaller successes such as having crosswalks re-striped, achieving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, Adopt-A-Sprinker project, Annual Fourth of July Kids' Parade, and a change in some parking to help reduce noise levels for near by neighbors.  To achieve any larger successes we all knew what was needed was an assessment & master plan for the entire park.  However, with the city budget being very stressed, it didn’t seem likely that we would get the necessary funding from Parks & Recreation’s budget.  Instead, we applied for a grant through Parks & Recreation and the State Historical Fund awarded a $60,000 grant to the Department of Parks and Recreation for completion of an historic landscape assessment and master plan for Cheesman Park!  This plan was just recently completed and you can learn more about it by clicking here.  This was really wonderful news as the completion of the plan aids all of us in restoring and improving the urban jewel Cheesman was always meant to be.
