The Denver Victim Advocacy Program has an expansive volunteer/intern program. We provide a training manual, hours of one-on-one training, and incorporate all of our volunteers/interns into the daily work of the team. Because the training is so encompassing we ask for a one-year or two-semester commitment to the program, with a minimum of eight hours a week. Due to the nature of court’s calendar, at least four hours must be spent in the morning. Our office provides advocacy services seven days a week, so weekends are also available. Every volunteer/intern is required to complete a criminal background check and interview before they are considered for placement. The volunteers/interns are trained in the dynamics of victimization, risk assessment, the intricacies of the criminal justice system, and the dynamics of domestic violence. Each volunteer/intern is placed in an area of interest which can include working in the arraignment courtroom, trial courtroom, or juvenile court.
For more information about the volunteer/intern program, or to apply to be a part of the team, please call 720-913-8020 and ask to speak with Angela.
