Park Hill Thriving Communities is a LiveWell Colorado community with a mission to eliminate health disparities in Park Hill via equal access to healthy eating and equal opportunities to active living. The project's framework includes programs to support individual behavior change and environmental and policy change for long-term, sustainable changes. The project is coordinated through the City and County of Denver, Department of Environmental Health, Denver Healthy People 2020.

Park Hill Thriving Communities Stakeholders and Partners work together to meet community needs and desires. Partner organizations offer support and strategies for Park Hill residents and organizations to positively affect individual and community health.

PHTC started with a community engagement process called "Photo - Voice" that allowed Park Hill residents to identify key issues in the community. During the Summer of 2006 sixteen Park Hill residents expolred the neighborhood and took photos of barriers they saw to healthy eating active living in Park Hill!

Annual Reports

As part of the Park Hill Thriving Communities initiative Denver Healthy People provides yearly reports to the community on the actions and progress of the initiative.

Axum Park

First documented through the camera lenses of Park Hill residents, the disrepair of the City of Axum Park at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cherry Street was unmistakable. Identified by local residents as a “trouble spot” and underutilized community resource, PHTC partnered with Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) to address the issue. With funding provided by the Better Denver Bond Program, major park renovations by DPR became possible. PHTC led community involvement in the park renovations design and in collaboration with VOC created a multi-use trail within the park...

City of Axum Park Trail Construction - In response to information collected from our Park Hill Photo Voice project Park Hill Thriving Communities and Volunteers of Colorado, on October 9, 2009, organized and built a new walking trail around the park! Pictures of the construction in action are here. The new trail was dedicated by Councilwoman Carla Madison on October 10, 2009.
Mayor Breaks Ground on Axum Park Renovations! The City of Axum Park on the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Birch Street will begin to undergo a large renovation scheduled to be completed summer 2011. Artist rendition of completed park!

The Bike Depot

The Bike Depot- The Park HIll Bike Depot is a community-based project which aims to equitably increase active living opportunities that contribute to the overall improvement of individual and community health. Residents of Park Hill and surrounding neighborhoods can earn a bike, become skilled at repairing bikes, take a bike safety class, or participate in a variety of wellness programs.

Park Hill Thriving Communities, a LiveWell Colorado initiative, partnered with Recycle Bicycles, the Denver City Bike Planner, local business representatives, Denver Parks and Recreation, and Park Hill residents to launch the Park Hill Bike Depot.
