Truancy Court Diversion Program

The Truancy Court Diversion Program is collaboration between Denver District Truancy Court, Denver Public Schools, the Denver Department of Human Services and SCO.  The goal of this partnership is to reduce the number of youth appearing in truancy court, improve attendance and identify at risk youth.  Youth are eligible for the program if they do not have prior court involvement and do not have an open case with Human Services.  Youth and their parent/guardian meet with a Diversion Officer to complete an assessment and to develop a strength-based Diversion plan designed to decrease truancy.  Diversion requirements can range from monitoring school attendance, progress reports, community service, counseling or research projects.  If youth successfully complete the program they will not have to return to court and a report will be made to the courts to support closing the truancy case.
