Mission Statement
To provide an opportunity, through community based therapeutic recreation programs for citizens with disabilities to develop physical, mental, emotional, social and leisure skills necessary to participate in a continuum of activities which will enhance their well-being.
Goals
- To provide an opportunity for citizens with disabilities to develop leisure and supportive knowledge and skills enabling their participation in a service continuum of segregated to integrated programs in the least restrictive environment.
- To facilitate inclusion into recreation programs utilizing community resources, services and information dissemination.
- To provide an opportunity for agency staff, volunteers, resource persons, family members and caregivers to acquire knowledge and skills about therapeutic recreation so as to gain their support and involvement in Adaptive Recreation
- To provide an opportunity for intra- and inter-agency cooperation to enhance the leisure services and resources available to citizens throughout the community.
Specially Designed Programs
These programs are offered for a variety of ages and abilities throughout Denver. Many of these programs are offered in the recreation center and at local parks. These programs include adapted aquatics, horseback riding, snow skiing, water skiing, teen night out, dances, Young Adult Adventures, overnight camping, rafting and much more! The programs are designed with the adaptations and additional assistance that is needed for successful programming.
TRAC
Transition to Recreation Activities in the Community-this program provides people with disabilities with the opportunity to participate in recreational activities in Denver Parks and Recreation centers. Certified Recreation Therapist will work one on one with the participant developing a program that is both therapeutic and enabling to ensure a smooth transition to independence in the utilization of the recreation centers. Services include, but are not limited to; class and registration information, leisure interest search assistance, one to one class assistance and advocacy to eliminate barriers.
