Pre-Supervisory Training

Choose your Future

The PST program is designed for employees who are interested in promotion to supervisory positions. The program provides awareness and knowledge of what is necessary for successful supervision. The purpose of the program is to provide a realistic experience and practical application of supervision, which will help you determine whether supervision is the right career path for you.

PST details:

·          Nine required classes/workshops are held over a four-month period.

·          Independent activities related to classes are completed each week.

·          Each of the competencies required for supervisors (communication, problem solving, conflict management, leadership, and interpersonal relations) are taught and then applied in a project completed by the participant.  Activities and exercises are observed by raters and objectively evaluated.

·          Twenty hours of job shadowing are completed.

·          Total time commitment for DOCS participation will be approximately 85 hours over a 14-week period, including about 30 hours away from the participant’s current job.

·          The value of the program is approximately $3250; however, participants will only be charged $250.   The cost may be paid by the employee, the employee’s department, or some combination of the two.

·          Selection to the PST program is limited to 25 participants per program.

·           Applications for PST may be submitted only during the specified application period.
