Restaurant Inspection

The City of Denver inspects approximately 3,000 licensed food facilities that are food service related. These include grocery stores, catering companies, coffee shops, hospitals, convenience stores, manufacturing plants, commercial bakeries, fast food restaurants, etc.

Eleven full time staff perform more than 6,000 inspections a year.

Inspections are performed on a regular basis depending on the type of food prepared and the amount of food handling that takes place within the facility. Most full time restaurants will be inspected 1 to 3 times a year depending on their risk factors.

During inspections the inspectors main concerns are with food safety factors like hygiene, proper cooling of food, proper hot and cold holding temperatures and proper cooking temperatures. Emphasis is placed on HACCP principles of food safety.
