Basic Food Safety and Sanitation Class
Knowledge of safe food preparation and foodborne disease prevention is important for anyone who prepares or sells food. Food safety education, information, and technical assistance are provided to food businesses during inspections conducted by the department. Managers of food businesses are responsible for ensuring that their staff has the knowledge and training to prepare food safely.
Food safety training is offered by private companies, professional organizations and the Public Health Inspections Division. Training offered by the Public Health Inspections Division can be customized to the needs of a food operation. Free Training options include a 30-60 minute on-site class that focuses on the specific facility operation and violation history. Scheduling a consulting visit is an excellent way to assess if food safety systems in an operation are adequate to protect public health.
The Public Health Inspections Division also offers formal 2.5 hour classes on Basic Food Safety. This class is usually held in a city facility yet can be conducted at your facility if you have five (5) or more participants. There is a fee for this class. Contact us to schedule a Basic Food Safety class at your facility or see the schedule, below, of times and dates for classes held at the department. A self-education guide, called
Show You Know, and other food safety educations aids, are available in the
food safety resources to assist in training about common food safety topics. Some materials are available in languages other than English.
