| In 2006, the Mayor’s Office for Education and Children (MOEC) begin recognizing outstanding individuals in the Denver community for their efforts in advancing the well being of Denver’s children and youth. Individuals are recognized for "doing the heavy lifting" and emerging as champions for children and youth.
The Heavy Lifting Award is intended to thank and recognize individuals committed to making children and youth a top priority. Individuals are sought that have made advances to increase the development and academic success of Denver’s children and youth in the areas of research, policy, programming, and public awareness.
Individuals will be selected by MOEC staff from diverse sectors including, but not limited to, philanthropy, education, public service (elected officials and employees), business, community-based organizations, health, media, juvenile justice and education. Youth, community volunteers, and individual professionals will also be sought for recognition. Award recipients will participate in a recognition luncheon and receive a framed award.
