 Workplace Safety Minimize
The City and County of Denver strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees, as well as manage any accidents or incidents that may occur to minimize the impact on employees. The Risk Management Safety Unit has developed some guidelines and policies and Safety Classes to help meet this goal.

Rember that safety is a shared responsibility - we all have to do our part to keep ourselves and our coworkers safe.

Safety and Health Training is available upon request. Click here to see examples of material that can be presented to your particular group. Please contact Risk – Safety at 720-913-3348 for more information.

Buzz on Risk & Loss Prevention Minimize

Bug Off
Summer’s back, and so are those pesky bugs. For most people, bug bites and stings turn out to be nothing more than a nuisance bringing momentary alarm, temporary discomfort and localized pain. But for some, bites and stings can lead to infections that require medical treatment or worse, acute allergic reactions that can be serious or even fatal. Therefore, it’s important to remember how to avoid these unwanted encounters and keep yourself safe while working outdoors.

Defensive Driving
How many of us would do something everyday if it could save our lives or the lives of our loved ones? This is what defensive driving is all about - saving lives. Defensive driving protects us from what is happening around us. Developing defensive driving habits means:

  • Making safe and legal driving decisions.
  • Creating a safe, stress-free personal driving space in and around your vehicle.
  • Driving to your destination safely – without a crash and without affecting other drivers’ safety.
  • Practicing courtesy, cooperation and common sense.
  • Recognizing the risks of hazardous driving conditions and behaviors

Hands on Safety
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to lose a finger? A thumb? A hand? An injury to your hands or fingers can make even everyday tasks difficult or impossible to perform. Serious injuries may require extensive therapy and training to relearn even simple tasks we often take for granted. Therefore, protecting the hands and fingers from injury should be a top priority while both at work and at home.

Circle of Safety

Whether there are a lot of hazards in your workplace, or just a few, the most dangerous ones are those that we see each day and do nothing about.  These are all of the "I knew one day that someone was going to trip on that," or "It was only a matter of time before someone got hurt."  Hazards that employees have grown used to and are not eliminated,, may cause injuries that could have been prevented by watching out for each other within a circle of safety.
