Online Health Assessment: A Closer Look
Online Health Assessment: A Closer Look
One of the required actions of the City’s DenverWellness Incentive Program is completion of an online health assessment through your City-sponsored health care provider. A health assessment provides employees with concrete information about their current health risks and overall health status. Based on the results of your health assessment, recommendations will be given in order to improve your health and quality of life.

Health assessments also provide important data for the City regarding the health risks of our workforce and how these risks change over time. The data gathered from the health assessments will allow the City to develop programs and classes that target the specific needs of City employees.

To get started with the online health assessment, employees are encouraged to learn their 4 key health numbers. Your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and body mass index (BMI) numbers are key indicators of your risk for major chronic illnesses.

Blood Pressure: Blood Pressure is the force of blood against the walls of your arteries as the heart pumps blood through the body. High blood pressure, also known as Hypertension, is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.

Healthy Range Pre-Hypertension Hypertension
<120/<80 120-139/80-89 >140/>90

Blood Sugar: A blood glucose test measures the amount of glucose in your blood. Glucose tests are performed to detect or monitor diabetes. Blood glucose levels that remain high over time can damage your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and blood vessels.
Healthy Range: Less than 100 mg

Cholesterol : This test is used to estimate the risk of developing heart disease since high blood cholesterol has been associated with hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).

Desirable Borderline High High Risk
below 200 mg/dL 200 to 239 mg/dL > above 240 mg/dL

Body Mass Index (BMI): This is a ratio between weight and height. A significant

amount of research demonstrates that a high BMI is associated with increased risk for heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and cancers.

Desirable Borderline High High
18.5-24.9  25-29.9   >30

Go get your health numbers, schedule a preventive health visit with your health provider or call your doctor’s office.

Once you receive their health numbers, the information is used to complete the online health assessment through our health care providers. Inserting your 4 health numbers into the health assessment will assure a more accurate and individualized health report.  Employees have until August 31, 2010 to complete their health assessment.
