Bannock Street and Shattuck Site (OU-VIII) Cleanup Remedial Activities
Operable Unit VIII remedial activities included excavation, loading, transportation and off-site disposal of low-level radioactive materials that co-exist in the asphalt and/or subsurface soils along Bannock Street between West Jewel Avenue and West Mexico Avenue and at Shattuck Site. The Army Corps of Engineers and United States Environmental Protection Agency performed the excavation, loading and transportation and disposal activities, while the City and County of Denver (CCoD) was responsible for reconstruction of the disturbed areas along the streets to Public Works standards. The low-level radioactive materials were transported via railroad to a disposal facility in Idaho.
