DENVER SUCCEEDING IN FIGHTING CRIME
Justice Grant  Helps D.A. and Police Learn Effective Tools and Techniques

An eighteen month project support by the National Institute of Justice is reaping rewards for the Denver Police and Denver District Attorney. The City and County of Denver received a grant from the National Institute of Justice for a DNA Burglary Project along with four other cities. Now, with the effort underway for just over a year, the Denver Project will be held out by the National Institute of Justice as a national model for the use of DNA in property crimes.

SEARCHABLE DATABASE of AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Mayor Hickenlooper and Superintendent Bennet Unveil Collaborative Technology
 
Mayor John Hickenlooper and Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet have unveiled the Denver After-School Database ), an online searchable database that uses the City’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology to access information about Denver’s after-school programs.
 
Over 700 programs are available for the 2007-2008 school year that are located in or hosted by schools, recreation centers, libraries and community-based organizations. Users can search by entering a street address or selecting a neighborhood, program, school, library or recreation center.

YOUTH CURFEW CATCHES ATTENTION
Intensified Citywide Curfew Enforcement all Summer

Denver’s Curfew Ordinance requires that youth 17 years of age and younger must be off the street on Friday and Saturday nights before midnight from 12:01 a.m. through 5:00 a.m., and Sunday through Thursday nights, between 11:01 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  Youth can be cited with a municipal violation for violating the curfew ordinance while parent(s) or legal guardian(s) can be cited for allowing youth to violate the ordinance. Reducing any possible threat of violence against youth is the goal of the curfew program.
