Denver Elections Director starts weekly website column

Want to know what’s happening as Denver prepares for the 2008 elections?  Check out the "Director's Notebook"  Elections Director Michael Scarpello's new weekly column.  You'll find it on the Denver Elections Division website, www.DenverGov.org/elections.

Scarpello’s column covers major projects and hurdles as the City gears up for what is expected to be record voter numbers for this presidential election.

Some of the topics covered include:
  • Getting ready to move the Elections Division
  • Choosing polling places
  • Early voting locations
  • Designing the ballot
  • How to vote by mail
  • Tabulating paper ballots
A lot goes planning and preparing for any election.  Ballots must be designed and printed.  Election judges must be recruited and trained.  Polling places must be sought out, inspected for suitability, and secured.  Public education materials must be created and distributed.  Community partners’ feedback must be solicited.  Candidates and initiative groups must be interacted with.  Voter registration data must be updated continually.  And all software and hardware systems must be tested.

Scarpello will have plenty to say, so read the "Director's Notebook" regularly.  Bookmark  www.DenverGov.org/elections and follow the progress as Denver prepares for the 2008 elections.
