Free sessions connect small businesses with construction contracting opportunities
January 24, 2007 To assist Denver businesses with the procurement of construction-related contracting opportunities, the Denver Office of Economic Development is offering a free Business Certification Training Program every Friday. Launched 2007, the two-hour training prepares businesses to participate in the City’s new Construction Empowerment Initiative (CEI).
The Business Certification Training Program is offered every Friday, from 9–11 a.m., in room 4.F.6 of the Wellington Webb Municipal Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave. Advance registration is required by calling the Denver Office of Economic Development at 720-913-1714.
“The City plays a key role in connecting small businesses with construction contracting opportunities,” said Tamela Lee, director of the Office of Economic Development Division of Small Business Opportunity. “With several significant projects on the horizon, such as the Denver Justice Center and the redevelopment of the former Gates site and Denver Union Station, the time is ripe for small businesses to become certified.”
The training provides an overview of the different certification programs covering the construction, professional design and construction services industries. Attendees will also learn more about the new CEI Ordinance and the application process for obtaining the following certifications:
- Small Business Enterprise (SBE)
- Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)
- Women Business Enterprise (WBE)
- Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)
- Airport Concessionaire Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE)
- Small Business Enterprise Concessions (SBEC)
Contruction Empowerment Initiative launched in the 4th quarter of 2006 and seeks to ensure that business opportunities created by the expenditure of public funds are made available to all community members, providing a pathway for smaller and minority- and women-owned companies in the Denver construction market to grow, prosper and succeed.
For more information on the Construction Empowerment Initiative, visit www.milehigh.com.
The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) works to create a local environment that stimulates balanced economic growth through job creation, business assistance, housing options and neighborhood redevelopment.
Division of Small Business Opportunity (DSBO) helps promote small and disadvantaged businesses by providing access to contracting opportunities within the City and County of Denver. DSBO offers compliance assistance with City contracts, business ownership certification, and compliance assistance for businesses located at Denver International Airport.
