The cost of illegal parking on Denver streets gets steeper
Denver Public Works Right of Way Enforcement (ROWE) says the price of parking illegally on
Denver city streets is going up.
Starting October 1st the cost of a Type 1 parking ticket is $25, up from $20.
Type 1 Violations include Meter Violations (not enough money put into the meter to cover the time parked at the meter) and Overtime Parking Non-Meter (violating posted parking time restrictions).
There are 28 different kinds of violations in the Type I category; however two of the 28 will not be immediately affected by these increases: Street Sweeping/Repair and Parking Tow-Away Zone. Fines for parking in Street /Repair and Parking Tow-Away Zones change to $25.00 for the first offense, $50.00 for subsequent offenses. Paying attention to parking restrictions for street sweeping is essential to the environmental health of our City. Denver’s Public Works Street Maintenance Street Sweeping program removes dirt, leaves and debris from City streets, reducing air and water pollution and providing a clean environment.
The fine for parking in a space specified for people with disabilities is also going up. That fine goes from $100 to $150. Parking specified for people with disabilities is not a special privilege, but a necessity. The spaces are needed to give people with mobility limitations the same opportunities as people who do not have disabilities.
Parking is a critical asset to the City that must be carefully managed to stay relevant to current market conditions. It’s important to remember that the financial health of many businesses and restaurants is dependent upon customer turn-over and flow, and those establishments that rely on metered parking for their customers benefit from citizen’s complying with the time restrictions placed on parking.
Remember, all parking violation fines double after twenty (20) calendar days.
