CITY CRIME CONTINUES DECLINE
The Denver Police Department and the Office of the Manager of Safety are reporting that crime in Denver is continuing its decline though 2007.  Citywide reported Crime is down 11.4% from January through July of 2007, compared to 2006.
There is a decrease in every major crime category.
  • -12.9% Part One Person Crimes
  • -13.4% Part One Property Crimes
  • -13.3% Part One Total
  • - 8.0% Part Two Other Crimes Against Persons
  • - 6.7% Part Two Public Disorder Crimes
  • - 8.3% Part Two Drug/Alcohol Offenses
  • - 5.2% Part Two White Collar Crimes
  • -13.1% Part Two All Other Crimes
  • - 7.7% Part Two Total
Definitions
The Federal Bureau of Information established Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) standards in order to collect crime information from municipalities across the United States and effectively compare crime rates among the nation’s cities.
Part 1 Crimes
Traditional UCR guidelines track eight “Index Crimes,” known also as Part 1 crimes. The UCR system includes crimes that are most likely to be reported to the police and to occur with sufficient frequency to provide an adequate basis for comparison. Part 1 crime definitions are listed here.
 
Part 2 Crimes
The Part 1 crimes represent approximately two-thirds of all crimes reported in Denver, although this portion varies over time. The definitions for the other crimes, called Part 2 crimes
