  City Honors America's Fallen Soldiers Monday, September 08, 2008 | 43 ° Mist

Rep. Mark Udall, Gov. Bill Ritter, Mike Coffman and Denver Human Services to Salute Veterans.

Hundreds of veterans from the U.S. Armed Forces, scout troops, color guards and other honorable veteran groups will march in the annual Denver Memorial Day Parade to commemorate America’s soldiers on Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m.

U.S. Congressman Mark Udall, Governor Bill Ritter, Secretary of State Mike Coffman, Brig. Gen. H. Mike Edwards, Col. Zeigler, Denver Human Services Manager Roxane White and Veteran Service Officer (VSO) George Cassidy are among the few who will pay tribute to Denver’s veterans. A mayoral proclamation will be read on behalf of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper during the parade. This will occur at the reviewing stand located between Colfax Ave. and 14th Ave. on Broadway.

Many military, community and youth organizations plan to participate and will begin marshalling at 9 a.m. The parade will feature a USS Indianapolis survivor, Disabled American Veterans chapters, American Legion posts, vintage vehicles, marching bands, scout troops and groups dedicated to helping veterans.
Andrew Grieb, a leader with the Disabled American Veterans organization, is this year’s parade chairman. The Denver County VSO is helping assemble the parade. The VSO is a division of Denver Department of Human Services that assists veterans in obtaining benefits available through the federal Veterans Administration and links them to other resources that help the veteran community.
