SUBSIDIZED YOUTH LABOR AVAILABLE for DENVER BUSINESSES Saturday, October 11, 2008 | 39 ° Mist

Program Matches Youth Worker with Business

Denver employers that are looking to fill positions this summer might be eligible for free, subsidized labor through the Youth Employment Program offered by the Denver Office of Economic Development. The program matches youth 14 to 21 years of age with entry-level jobs throughout Denver.

“This is a great opportunity for Denver businesses to provide youth the opportunity to work and gain valuable experience this summer,” said Cec Ortiz, acting director of the Denver Office of Economic Development. “Not only can businesses tap into a free labor source, but they can play an important role in building the skills of our local youth.”

The program connects Denver employers with youth workers for an eight-week period from June through August. All youth participants receive job-readiness training prior to placement, as well as job coaching throughout employment.

Approximately 450 youth workers will be placed with jobs paying $7.42 per hour through the program this summer. Wages are paid by the City through the Youth Employment Program.

For more information on how businesses can participate and help Denver’s youth experience positive and sustained employment opportunities that will lead to productive career choices, visit the Denver Office of Economic Development online at www.milehigh.com or call 720-865-5700.

The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) works to create a local environment that stimulates balanced economic growth through job creation, business assistance, housing options and neighborhood redevelopment. The OED Division of Workforce Development is a full-service employment and training agency meeting the recruiting and training needs of businesses, job seekers and youth throughout the metro area.
