School supplies needed for 3,000 foster, homeless and underprivileged youth

Denver Department of Human Services (DDHS) launched its Annual School Supply Fundraiser today, and it will run through Aug. 10, 2009.The DDHS School Supply Drive is funded completely through donations. The school supplies will be given to 3,000 homeless, foster and underprivileged youth the week before school begins.
Donations will be accepted Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., at the following city locations.
- Denver Human Services: 1200 Federal Blvd., 2855 Tremont Pl. and 4685 Peoria St. at security
- Webb Building: 201 W. Colfax, 311 Call Center, Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and Career Service Authority
- City and County Building: 1437 Bannock St., Mayor’s Office
- Denver Recreation Centers: Donations accepted at all 30 recreation centers at the check-in desks.
“School supplies are essential to helping create the right learning environment in the classroom,” Mayor John Hickenlooper said. “This year, more than ever because of the economic downturn, we need individuals and businesses to rise to the challenge and donate supplies to help these kids be successful learners.”
DDHS needs the following items school supplies for children in grades K-12:

All donations are tax-deductible.
Last year, DDHS distributed school supplies to over 2,700 underprivileged children in Denver.
