CITY ADOPTS GREEN STANDARDS FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Subsidized Affordable Housing Projects Requirements Beginning  in 2010
 
The Denver Office of Economic Development recently adopted a series of sustainability standards for all City-supported affordable housing. Beginning in January 2010, all affordable housing projects receiving City subsidies will meet the Enterprise Green Communities criteria. Affordable housing developers are encouraged to build according to the standards during 2008 and 2009. The city’s adoption of the standards was announced at the Energy Star Summit in Denver.

"PUFFER" TIME AGAIN
Illegal to Keep Cars Running Unattended
 
As the temperatures outside drop this winter, we will unfortunately suffer the pain of getting into cold cars. Many drivers will be tempted to break the law and be “PUFFERS” (puffer n. an automobile left unattended and running in cold weather). Last year hundreds of people had their vehicles’ stolen while they were left running unattended. The Denver Police Department is strongly encouraging the citizens of Denver not to become “Puffers”. It doesn’t matter if you lock the doors while the car warms up, you are still a “Puffer”.

Medical Examiner's Office Veteran Fills Post
 
Nancy Severson, Manager of Denver Environmental Health, announced that long-time forensic pathologist Dr. Amy Martin will be Denver’s new Chief Medical Examiner. Her appointment followed the resignation of Dr. Robert Whitmore, effective December 14. 
 
Dr. Martin is a talented, highly respected professional who has the background and knowledge to step into the position without missing a step,” Severson said.
