Interpreter's Office

Frequently Asked Questions

The Office of the Court Interpreter provides interpreter services to defendants and witnesses who speak languages other than English. These services allow defendants with limited English appearing in court to be able to understand what is taking place in the proceeding.

The need for Spanish speaking interpreters is most common, but the office continually receives requests to provide interpreters speaking dozens of languages from all around the world.

Interpreters are provided within the Criminal, General Sessions and Traffic Divisions, as well as civil matters that include restraining orders (Courtroom 124D). In civil cases other than those heard in Courtroom 124D, plaintiffs and defendants must provide their own interpreters.

PLEASE NOTE: Requests for interpreters for people who are Deaf are handled by Lorrie A. Kosinski, Sign Language Interpreter, with the Commission for People with Disabilities. She can be reached at (720) 913-8487.
