Denver Recreation Center Task Force Draft Recommendations
Watch this month's Council Matters Online

Task Force findings could influence Denver Rec. decisions for years.
In June of last year, ‘The Recreation Center Task Force’ was convened. This group consisted of community leaders, neighborhood activists, parks and recreation center staff as well as citizens. Recently the Task Force announced their draft recommendations for the future of Denver recreation, these recommendations along with additional community input could guide decision-making for Denver recreation for the next 5-10 years.
The Value of the Rec Center System and Program Opportunities
The recommendations have four key areas: The Value of the System, Program Opportunities, the Physical System meaning Location/Transportation, and the Fee Structure. All centers will focus focusing on services for adults, youth, seniors, and the disabled. And a standard level of quality will be sought for maintenance, operations, staffing, programming and customer service. Also under consideration will be the appropriate adjusting of hours, service levels & programs per group needs and recommendations.
The Physical System and Fee Structure
A four-tiered system is under consideration that would consist of: Regional centers featuring indoor pools, state of the art fitness gear and large gyms. These centers would be open 7 days a week, Local centers that would be open 5-6 days a week, Neighborhood centers open 5 days a week and focused on youth programs, and Community Centers. A population grouping-based fee system is also considered that would cover adults, seniors, people with disabilities, and youth.
