Who We Are, What We Do and Why!

OUR PURPOSE –

What the DWC is about:

We encourage, recommend, inform and research issues and trends that affect or enhance the quality of life for women in Denver.

What DWC does:

We foster strategic alliances and partnerships with groups that have common objectives.  We work to increase the quality of life in Denver for women.  We work to build local leadership, encourage participation, create awareness and acknowledge/celebrate women’s related initiatives.  We support and advocate for public policy that affects the quality of life of women and their families.

We Work To Foster Strategic Alliances And Partnerships With Groups That Have Common Objectives.

-          This goal is the foundational pathway for the other 3 goals.

-          Creating relationships and providing support to various strategic alliance and partnerships allows creates a network of support that allows for different organizations to bolster one another towards their missions

-          Identify Critical Potential Partners In Goals 1-4 Who Are Unfamiliar With DWC

-          Promote and Publicize DWC

-          Participate in and plan events that foster and create relationships

We Work To Increase The Quality Of Life In Denver For Women.

-          In Denver the average income for Women is $30,768; on average, $0.76 to every dollar earned by a man.

-          Awareness is the first step in creating positive dialogue aimed at solving quality of life problems in Denver.

-          Understanding and education is powerful and drives change.  It’s also the key to a women’s economic self-sufficiency.

-          Identifying key companies as female friendly

-          Publishing articles and promoting business participation

-          Educating media sources of important quality of life issues

We Work To Build Local Leadership, Encourage Participation And Create Awareness Of Women’s Related Initiatives.

-          The workplace is where most women see themselves as leaders

-          Support from other women who have achieved leadership positions are vital as role models in encouraging future leaders

-          Women who have proven leadership skills and talents from community, business and family domains need to be encouraged to embrace higher levels of leadership that affect their quality of life and provide them with empowering work.

-          Acknowledging current leaders through partnership events such as the DWC/CWCC Lawmaker’s Awards

-          Educating citizens and media sources through the Annual Legislative Breakfast event

-          Identifying present and future community and    business leaders for positive exposure/visibility

We Support And Advocate Public Policy That Affects The Quality Of Life Of Women And Their Families

-          Proposed and passed state legislation affects the quality of life for women and their families

-          Advocacy and coalition work helps guide positive public policy

-          Maintaining positive relationships with elected officials which are crucial to the education of legislators that work on behalf of women’s issues

-          Identifying and selecting legislative initiatives that affect women

-          Contacting and maintaining relationship with key City Council and State Representatives

-          Evaluating and aligning with existing service organizations on legislation for women and their families
