I received a subpoena. Do I have to come to court?

Yes, you do. Failure to appear in court in response to a subpoena is a violation of a court order. The court may send a law enforcement officer to arrest you if you do not appear.

If you receive a subpoena which lists the name of an Assistant City Attorney, and anyone else tells you that you do not have to appear in court, contact the City Attorney's Office immediately.
What if I can’t come to court at the time stated in the subpoena?

You must immediately contact the person issuing the subpoena. If you can’t determine who that is, you can call the clerk of the court named in the subpoena and ask for the name of that person. You should never just ignore a subpoena, even if you have a good reason why you can’t come to court at the time it states.
