Response: The Lower Lakewood Gulch and South Platte River projects are currently anticipated to be complete in mid 2012. The bike path south of 13th Avenue may be opened sooner due to the planned completion of this portion of the project in late 2011. A bike detour for both the South Platte and Lakewood Gulch bike paths will be provided the duration of both projects. On the website there is a detailed schedule and maps regarding these detours at www.denvergov.org/splatte_lgulch.
Comment or Question: I would like to see an underpass built on the Platte River bike trail at 13th Avenue, near the power station. Something similar to all of the other underpasses along the trail, such as the one at 8th Avenue, would be nice. The area is wide enough to contain an underpass. This would eliminate the only street crossing on the Platte River trail between Denver southward to C-470/Chatfield State Park. This Summer I witnessed a bicyclist nearly die as he failed to stop and a truck had to totally slam on its brakes. Just tihinking about sends chills over my body because it was only by the grace of God that this cyclists life was spared.

Response: The South Platte River trail crossing at 13th Avenue will be grade separated so that trail users will not have to cross 13th Avenue at street level. This will provide for a much safer crossing than currently exists on this busy street.
