56th AVENUE, QUEBEC TO PEÑA BOULEVARD
CORRIDOR STUDY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
PROJECT UPDATE — JANUARY 2009
FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT RECEIVED
The City and County of Denver’s project team is continuing the study efforts to define a plan to improve mobility and safety in the 56th Avenue corridor.
In previous project updates, the project team described the project phasing. Available project funds will be used to construct improvements to 56th Avenue between Quebec and Havana Streets.
An Environmental Assessment for the Quebec Street to Havana Street section of the corridor was completed and a public hearing on the project was held on October 14, 2008 at Montbello High School.
In December 2008, the Federal Highway Administration determined that improvements to the Quebec Street to Havana Street section of the corridor will have no significant impacts to the environment. With this “Finding of No Significant Impact” (FONSI) decision, engineering design of the corridor improvements (widening to six lanes with a center median, and detached multi-use paths) will continue, with construction scheduled to begin in late 2009.
