 Tow Truck Operator Permits Minimize

1. The city of Denver contracts with various tow truck operators to perform the city towing services. Those companies that enter into contracts with the city for these services are required to have all of the drivers who are going to drive trucks for the city contracts obtain tow truck operator permits. These applicants must fill out the application for a tow truck operator permit and are required to be photographed and fingerprinted. The Denver Police Department detective assigned to Excise and Licenses must review the criminal and motor vehicle records of anyone who has a record. The Detective may deny the application based on the grounds outlined in the contract or may require additional training. The applicant has the right to request an appeal hearing which will be granted if filed in a timely manner. The hearing will be conducted by a hearing officer or by the director. The applicant will be given the opportunity to present evidence and make any statements on his/her behalf. The hearing officer or director will consider the language of the city contract in arriving at a decision.

2. Following the hearing, the hearing officer will issue a recommended decision which the director will tentatively adopt pending objections filed by either party within ten days. Following the review of any objections received, the director will issue the final decision. If the director conducted the hearing, the director will simply issue the final decision. Copies of the recommended and final decisions will be mailed to the applicant.

3.  You need to have your current Motor Vehicle Driving Record (current is less than 90 days old).  Bring it with you when you visit our office.  Go to this site:   Get My Own Driving Record  It would be faster to visit a Colorado Motor Vehicle office in person to receive your record.  The addresses are listed on their site using the link above.  (You will be leaving the DenverGov website, so to return, you must use your Back key).  You can order it by mail, but there is a 10-14 day turn around time.
