Business Licensing
Renewal Procedures
1. The Denver Revised Municipal Code provides a ninety day grace period following expiration of a license within which a licensee may renew a license. D.R.M.C. Sec. 32-3(b). If the license is renewed within the first 30 days, there is a penalty of 20% of the license fee. If the license is renewed within 31 to 90 days there is a penalty of 50% of the license fee. The licensee may continue to operate during the grace period. If the grace period has expired, the licensee will be required to file a new application. 2. To be considered a timely renewal, if the renewal is received in the mail, the envelope must be postmarked on the day of expiration or any day before the day of expiration. If the renewal is accomplished in person, it will be accepted on any day up to the day of expiration and the day following the expiration date.
3. No business license will be renewed if the applicant owes any outstanding fines or fees to the city. No individual business license shall be renewed if the applicant has any outstanding warrants or judgments.
4. The department's inspectors are responsible for locating and notifying delinquent business license holders. They are expected to ensure that all businesses are licensed appropriately. Failure of an inspector to notify a delinquent licensee that its license has expired does not excuse the licensee from any applicable late penalty.
