Commission Members

 

 

The Members of the Denver Asian Pacific American Commission are:

 

Ron Abo is a principal architect of The Abo Group.  Building community through architecture is Ron Abo’s passion.  Ron is a current  board member of the Asian Chamber of Commerce.  Abo was recipient of the Martin Luther King Business Social Responsibility Award in 1998 for his intelligent, responsible work in Denver.

 

Drucie Bathin 

 

Frances Campbell currently works for the Jefferson Center for Mental Health.  She is vice president of the Filipino-American Community of Colorado and is a cultural advisor/facilitator for the Colorado Heritage Camps.   She is also the Executive Director of the Asian Public Media of Colorado which produces the television show “Colorado Asian Today.”

 

Mary Lee Chin, a registered dietitian, consults with media, industry, non-profits and the public on significant and controversial food and nutrition issues. Chin serves on the Advisory Board of the Center for Human Nutrition at the CU Health Sciences Center,  American Council of Fitness & Nutrition, University of Northern CO School of Nutrition, CO Dragon Boat Festival, and co-chairs APIAVote Gala Committee for the 2008 Democratic Convention.

Ferooza Eswaran

Rodger Hara is the Vice President of Capmark Finance, Inc.  His community service involvement includes work with the Homeless and Housing Funders Collaborative, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Englewood Housing Authority, Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, Tri-State Buddhist Apartments, Inc., as well as the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Native American Programs among others.

 

Jerico Javier is a member of the Filipino-American Community of Colorado, the Asian Roundtable of Colorado, the Filipino American Society of Colorado and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association.  Mr. Javier comes to the Commission having worked in the Denver Mayor’s Office, the Asian Pacific Development Center and I-Legal, Inc.

 

Jinny Kim is the Manager of Marketing & Communications at the Asian Pacific Development Center. Outside of her work with the API refugee and immigrant communities, she is also serving on the board of Japanese American Citizens League Mile High Chapter, South Korean President's National Unification Advisory Council and Colorado Dragon Boat Festival's Operations Committee.

 

Chuong Le

 

Peggy Lore is the Director of the Asian American Educational Programs and Outreach Office and is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Services at the University of Colorado at Denver.  Peggy has been a Chair and Member of the Denver Mayor’s Asian Advisory Committee, Denver Women’s Commission and the Denver Commission on Aging.  She has also served as Chair of Denver Public School’s Asian Advisory Council, member of the FreshStart Advisory Board and the Auraria Library Committee. 

 

Janis McCubbrey has spent her career in consumer advocacy and education. She has partnered with government agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Labor, and the Social Security Administration, to promote financial literacy programs throughout the country and in Colorado. She chairs the multicultural committee of the Colorado Council of Mediators and is a member of the Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Japanese American Citizens League.

 

Khoa Nguyen is the principal at Ellis Elementary School in Denver.  Nguyen comes to the Commission with a background in social work, child welfare and education.  He is a member of the Colorado Association of School Executives and the National Association of Social Workers.

 

Lynn Sargent is a Business Development Representative at Denver’s Office of Economic Development with over 20 years of civil service experience.  She currently operates the Employer Services office at Denver International Airport, provides consulting to Metro Denver’s businesses, and serves on University of Colorado’s Global Energy Management Advisory Council and Colorado Technology Association’s Education Committee.  She is also Chief Marketing Officer at Developing Minds Software, an IT firm serving the IEP needs of the special education community.

 

Pam Sweetser is the Executive Director of Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing authentic, identity building cultural experiences for children adopted from Asia and other locations.  Pam is the adoptive parent of a daughter born in Korea and a son born in India.  

 

Whei Wong is the Chief Communications Officer for Mapleton Public Schools. In this capacity, Ms. Wong oversees planning and directing of all strategic communications, public relations and marketing efforts.  She formerly served as the Communciations Director for Douglas County School District. Ms. Wong is also an award-winning television broadcast journalist with twelve years of reporting experience.  She formerly served five years on the Denver Metro Asian Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Erin Yoshimura, founder of Empowerful Changes™ ,is a trainer and coach specializing in emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence training, personal branding and career coaching. Her clients include KUSA (Gannett), Raytheon, MillerCoors, Making Connections-Denver, Colorado State University, University of Colorado, Boulder and the National Association of Asian American Professionals. Erin is a member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Pacific Development Center and served on the Operating Committee of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival.
