DCOA 2011 Goals & Budget         

DCOA SPECIFIC MISSION: To make Denver the best community for older adults through outreach, partnership, advocacy and advising.

 

 

GOAL: Identify and increase DCOA participation and communication in issues and concerns that impact or are of importance to aging well in the City and County of Denver.

 

 

 

Strategy: Create and maintain an advocacy plan for the Denver Commission on Aging.  

Objective – Link and partner with city, county and state advocates to increase awareness of senior issues and legislation.

 

 

 

       Action/Plan:

Encourage and facilitate new

DCOA members to join list serves/websites for Senior Lobby, Senior Briefing, AARP.

Invite advocate related speakers to DCOA meetings.

Poll DCOA Commissioners to determine current personnel resources in identifying potential partners.

Prioritize partnerships according to DCOA needs and goals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Provide prioritized groups with educational information on aging issues as related to their areas of interest and need.

 

Finish development of assessment tool for existing and potential partnerships based on needs and goals.

 

 

Explore the possible use of volunteers to create an Ambassador program (senior volunteers from the community to partner with the commission).

 

Begin to identify and define a project that measurably demonstrates the DCOA and Office on Aging are increasing livability for Denver seniors (e.g., increasing use of 311 as a useful tool for answering questions and getting information for older adults in Denver) to become a full commission goal in 2012.
