Thomas
J. Noel is a former chair of the Denver Landmark Preservation
Commission and current National Register reviewer for Colorado.
Dr. Noel is a professor of history at the University of Colorado
at Denver, where he has taught since 1978. He has also taught at
the University of Denver, Metropolitan State College, Arapahoe
Community College, Colorado Women's College, Denver East High
School and Hillel Academy of Denver.
Tom holds a master’s degree in library science from the
University of Denver and master’s degree in history from the
University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Noel's Ph.D. was awarded in
1978 by the University of Colorado, Boulder, where his grandmother
(a schoolteacher) and mother (a physician) also did their graduate
work.
Nicknamed "Dr. Colorado," Tom Noel has done much to
make local history accessible through his series of walking tours
of Denver's historic neighborhoods, churches, saloons and
cemeteries. He has published numerous articles on Denver and
Colorado, and has written a dozen books about his favorite city.
